چکیده

We use four linear constitutive relations to study "nite deformations of a biaxially loaded elastic membrane, triaxially loaded cube, and simple extensional and simple shearing deformations of an elastic body. In each case, the body is assumed to be isotropic and homogeneous. It is shown that only the neoHookean relation (a linear relation between the Cauchy stress tensor and the left Cauchy}Green tensor) and the Signorini's relation (a linear relationship between the Cauchy stress tensor and the Almansi}Hamel strain tensor) predict load}deformation curves that qualitatively agree with most of the test observations. A similar conclusion holds when the body is assumed to be incompressible. ( 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

On Constitutive Relations at Finite Strain: Hypo-elasticity and Elasto-plasticity with Isotropic or Kinematic Hardening*

The question of ‘generalization’ to finite strains of the constitutive relations of infinitesimal strain theory of elasticity, and classical elasto-plasticity with isotropic and kinematic hardening, is critically examined. Simple generalizations, which lead to physically plausible material behaviour, are presented. The current controversies surrounding (i) the choice of stress-rate in the above...

How to characterise a nonlinear elastic material ? A review on nonlinear constitutive parameters in isotropic finite elasticity

The mechanical response of a homogeneous isotropic linearly elastic material can be fully characterised by two physical constants, the Young’s modulus and the Poisson’s ratio, which can be derived by simple tensile experiments. Any other linear elastic parameter can be obtained from these two constants. In contrast, the physical responses of nonlinear elastic materials are generally described b...

A fiber-reinforced Transversely Isotropic Constitutive Model for Liver Tissue

Biomechanical properties of soft tissue, such as liver, are important in modeling computer aided surgical procedures. Experimental evidences show that liver tissue is transversely isotropic. In this article, considering the liver tissue as an incompressible fiber-reinforced composite with one family of fibers, an exponential strain energy function (SEF) is proposed. The proposed SEF is based on...

A Note on the Linearized Finite Theory of Elasticity

Abstract: In this paper we solve a simple dead load problem for an isotropic constrained material according to the linearized finite theory of elasticity. We show that the solution of such a problem can be obtained by linearizing with respect to the displacement gradient the solution of the corresponding problem in finite elasticity for an isotropic material subject to the same constraint, exac...
